About us

Southampton University and College Union

Welcome! You have reached Southampton UCU’s new blog. We hope that it will enable you to keep in touch with the activities of the UCU both here and nationally.

The UCU is the recognised union for academic, researchers, administrators, librarians, computer staff, and postgraduates who teach.

We negotiate salaries and conditions of employment for our members, as well as seeking to represent their views on professional matters affecting all aspects of higher education.

Our Aims

We aim to be the undisputed union of choice for all higher education professionals in the UK and to provide them with high quality support, advice, and services in their employment. We also seek to use our influence to improve the quality of higher education teaching and research for the benefit of students, present and future, and for society at large.

We are committed to the extension of access to higher education and to the promotion of the principles and practice of equal opportunities in all our activities.

We hope that this web site will be a valuable source of information about the association and higher education for everyone.

What is UCU?

UCU is the largest trade union and professional association for academics, lecturers, trainers, researchers and academic-related staff working in further and higher education throughout the UK.
